Infant and Pediatric Chiropractic Care
Dr. Daniel Mutter has been providing perinatal, pediatric, and family chiropractic in Portland, OR for over a decade. There are many reasons for parents to consider chiropractic as a first line of support when encountering challenges with their newborns, infants, and children. Chiropractors trained and experienced in the care of young ones offer a gentle, precise, drug-free, and physiologically-based service to facilitate more ease in the developing nervous system. Chiropractic is not a treatment for a condition, but rather a way to support the normal, self-healing capacity of the body. There are many expressions of dis-ease that occur in young ones that are often related to stress and tension held in the spine and cranium.

Chiropractic for newborns is essential because birth trauma affects nearly every baby. Birth is a powerful experience and that power can be exerted in ways that can be taxing to a newborn’s body. Research has shown that greater than 90% of healthy newborns had evidence of cranial and/or upper cervical dysfunction. Neurological stress from trauma to these areas reduces functional capacity and adaptive response.
The most common reasons parents present their babies to our office is difficulty with breastfeeding, torticollis, sleep challenges, and digestive (reflux, gassiness, constipation).
-
Chiropractic for infants is essential because the most critical window for the developing nervous system is the first two years of a child’s life. Any stress, strain, or injury to the head and neck of an infant can lead to neurological interference that will affect how they sense, move, and process information.
Parents commonly bring their infants for chiropractic care for colic, issues with latch, digestive challenges, irregular/absent poops, sleep difficulties, mobility concerns, or visible asymmetry in posture or movements.

Chiropractic is essential for children to help support their nervous systems adapt to a world of increasing environmental, social, chemical, and baseline physical stressors.
Parents bring their children for chiropractic for many reasons. Common presentations include headaches, emotional regulation, attention/focus challenges, sensory sensitivity, and digestive complaints.
As the stream of child development becomes a river, chiropractic helps to address and adjust any “boulders” or “dams” that may obstruct the flow of life and health.

Pediatric first visits begin with a deep dive into case history, objective assessments of autonomic nervous system function (InSight scans), and a neurotonal chiropractic exam.
We’ll identify the primary area(s) of neurological stress affecting the brain-body connection and determine where, whether, and how often to offer chiropractic adjustments to support the neurospinal integrity of your child.
